EMR stands for Electronic Medical Record and is also referred to as EHR or Electronic Health Record. An electronic medical
record system should have the capability to electronically provide all of the functionality and features currently provided
by the paper chart.
An EMR may have other features as well but should inculde these core features:
- Direct data entry into the record of all information that currently can be entered directly into the paper record.
- Customizable, organized storage of information.
- Comprehensive aggregation of content for a single provider or care delivery location for a single patient.
- Capability
of incorporation of information from outside sources.
- Information mobility, accessibility and reviewability.
